The fresh spring growth of the fern is a lovely light green, sometimes flushed pink which comes up over the top of the previous year's growth . More known as maidenhair this is a low growing species that produces a shallow rhizome evergreen and hardy shiny black stalks bearing simple or more usually divided fronds the segments fan shaped, oblong or rounded which spreads nicely to give good ground cover. Perfect for a woodland garden as in time and with favourable conditions the plant can cover quite a large area with its light green fronds, which darken with age.In contrast to A.aleuticum it has short arching, triangular tripinnate fronds.
